SAGRA DEL MANDORLO IN FIORE INTERNATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL
The Sagra del Mandorlo is the most important folk festival of Agrigento. A festival that, according to the tradition, is held every year in early February and lasts a week. The purpose is to celebrate the coming of spring with the blossoming of the almond trees, and rejoice for the comeback of life. The Sagra appears for the first time in 1934 in the small town of Naro by will of the Count Alfonso Gaetani, who wished it badly to promote the typical Sicilian products. The most important event of the feast takes place in the end, when the folkloristic groups parade with the Sicilian carts and the music bands, from the city to the Valley of the Temples. Since 1954, the feast has hosted also the International Folk Festival, a show that drives various local and European folkloristic groups to travel in order to participate.
