MARIANOPOLI
A planned community on the north-western side of the province of Caltanissetta, the town takes its name from the man who wanted its birth in 1726, the feudatory Mariano Della Scala. The territory tells a very ancient human history, whose remains are displayed in the Archaeological Museum. Perhaps one of the most interesting and suggestive stories is the story of the siege to Mitistrato (the ancient Mytistraton), a town that withstood the Romans until its catastrophic defeat and that is connected to the territory of Marianopoli. Today, it is a thriving town that produces wheat, almonds, olives, grapes, and farms sheep and cattle.
