BUTERA
Located on a hill that overlooks the Gela plain, Butera can claim a thousands of years old history thanks to the archaeological researches that confirm its prehistoric origin (with the famous cista dolmenica) and an intense pre-Greek activity. It seems certain that the name might derive from the Arabic word Būtīrah, which identifies a steep place. An important Norman county, Butera saw the alternation of important noble families. Its surrounding landscape is also its rural and economic history: olive trees, almond trees, citrus trees and vines draw such landscape, telling us how Butera keeps on being a suggestive piece of the territory.
