Marco Ruffini, Calvario-Museo Diocesano

The stories of compassion and devotion of the eighteen towns that form the dioceses of Caltanissetta,  a testimony of the most mysterious and solitary heart of Sicily, that inland rich with faith and hope, notwithstanding the toils that suffered in the centuries, are kept in the Museo Diocesano of Caltanissetta. Founded in 1983 by Monseigneur Giovanni Speciale, the Diocesan Museum of Caltanissetta, named after his creator and founder, tells the story of a local church, born in 1844, when Pope Gregorio XVI founded the dioceses of Caltanissetta, which gathers those inland towns born between the 16th and the 17th Century to populate the feuds of princes and lords, who donated precious sacred objects to the churches. Hosted in the 10 halls and in the 2 hallways of the ground floor of Caltanissetta’s Episcopal Seminary, the museum features precious paintings, fabrics, jewellery, sculptures and various vestments.
