Cattolica Eraclea is a town where, still today, religious feasts and popular traditions are well rooted, and the feast of Saint Joseph (the patron of the town) is one of the most popular local religious events. Every year, on 19 March, the Holy Family, after going through the main streets of the old town, reaches Piazza Roma, where the traditional lunch of the Holy Family is served, with the participation of Saint Joseph, Mary, Jesus and thirteen saints impersonated by local citizens. For this feast, it is customary to cook the traditional Minestra di S. Giuseppe (a pulse soup) and the  Buccellati, called “li Purciddati” (a typical garland-shaped sweet stuffed with dried figs and fruits). The feast closes with a firework show.
