Piazza Cavour e i palazzi- Elena La Spina-3

Piazza Cavour is the town’s main square. On its eastern side, there is the Monument ai Caduti della Prima guerra mondiale , officially installed on 23 April 1922. It is a beautiful stone obelisk that stands out on a stone slab and bears the city emblem. This beautiful square is surrounded by important and ancient buildings, like the Palazzo Comunale, dating back to the 18th Century and situated on the northern side of the square. The style is neoclassic and the structure has its vaults frescoed by the local painter Vincenzo Indelicato. Palazzo Mendola, in a Neo-Gothic style, is the most ancient building and belonged to the family of baron Mendola, which arrived in Favara in the early years of 1700. Then, we have Palazzo Fanara, located on the northern side of the square and built by Salvatore Fanara in the 19th Century. The façade features a large entrance gate in neoclassic style, while, inside, we find a courtyard and a monumental staircase. To finish, we find the Palazzo of Salvatore Cafisi, next to Palazzo Mendola. Built around mid-1800, it features a neoclassic style with, on the façade opening on the square, the coat of arms of the barons Mendola, still visible today. On the north side, instead, there is a beautiful entrance gate, the most monumental of the gates of 1800 in Favara.
