THE “SALVATORE LAURICELLA” ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
In Corso della Repubblica, a stone’s throw from the Sanctuary of Maria SS Assunta, you can visit Ravanusa’s Archaeological Museum that collects important finds coming from the site of Monte Saraceno. The museum is dedicated to Salvatore Lauricella, mayor of Ravanusa for 14 mandates. The finds are arranged according to an accurate explanatory itinerary created by the University of Messina. The museum displays polychrome terracotta tiles that decorated the roofs of the sacred buildings, among them the gorgoneion, painted clay pots, kitchenware, amphora, weighs for the loom, and especially the unique turtle-shaped clay bottle and the plastic vase depicting a Dionysian group with a satyr and an ass.
