THE PATRONAL FEAST OF THE SS.CROCIFISSO – 1, 2 and 3 MAY
The Feast of the SS. Crocifisso, also called the feast of “lu tri di maiu” is the most traditional and ancient feast in town. On 3 May of every year, the Simulacrum is paraded in a procession along the old town streets, with sharp movements and dives of the float, which the popular belief attributes to the Saint’s will. The fercolo is carried on the shoulder by the confrati who usually pass this important task onto their sons. Very characteristic is the pilgrimage on foot to the base of the Simulacrum, often done barefoot by both the Siculiana citizens and the many worshippers coming from everywhere. Like every patronal feast worth its name, in Siculiana too, there is no shortage of the traditional fireworks, food stalls and musical shows at the end of the night.
